Phillip James

Phillip James is a third-year law student at Texas Tech University School of Law, expected to graduate in May 2027. Originally from Houston, Texas, Phillip moved to Lubbock during high school and has since made West Texas his home.

Throughout his time at Texas Tech, Phillip has been actively involved in student service organizations, driven by a strong desire to give back to the community and make a positive impact. His academic background in Philosophy and his deep sense of justice sparked a passion for the legal system—particularly the structure, rules, and procedures that uphold fairness and order in society.

Phillip currently serves as an Article Editor of the Texas Tech Law Review and also serves as a brief writer for the school’s national moot court teams. He is also a member of the Energy Law Interest Group, the Estate and Property Law Society, and Phi Delta Phi, a legal honor society.

During the summer after his 1L year, Phillip clerked at Robles, Rael & Anaya, where he did litigation work. He then interned with Federal Magistrate Judge Amy Burch of the Northern District of Texas, where he drafted findings and recommendations for the court.

During the summer after his 2L year, Phillip clerked with Wick Phillips Gould & Martin in Fort Worth and Burns Charest in Dallas. At each firm, he worked on a variety of commercial and employment matters, with a particular emphasis on oil and gas litigation.

Outside of law school, Phillip enjoys playing pickleball, practicing archery, running, and watching movies.
