Mattie McCombs is a Candidate for Doctor of Jurisprudence at Texas Tech University School of Law. She will graduate in May of 2026. Mattie was raised in Artesia, New Mexico, and she moved to Lubbock in 2018 to attend Lubbock Christian University (LCU). Mattie graduated from LCU in December of 2021 with a Bachelor of Social Work.
After completing her undergraduate education, Mattie worked at the Children’s Home of Lubbock as a foster care case manager. Her passion for child welfare advocacy motivated her to attend law school at Texas Tech. She currently serves the Lubbock area as a CASA Advocate.
During the summer following her 1L year, Mattie spent half of her summer interning for Judge Chris Taylor in the 48th District Court in Tarrant County. The second half of her summer was spent at McCleskey, Harriger, Brazill, and Graf in Lubbock, Texas.
In addition to serving as a staff member for Texas Tech Law Review, Mattie will be President of the Family Law Society and a student member of the Federalist Society and Christian Legal Society. She will also be serving the student body at TTU Law as the State Bar of Texas Junior Representative.
In her free time, Mattie enjoys going to local concerts, listening to podcasts, attending church, and spending time with family and friends.
