Josh Owens is a third-year law student who will graduate in May 2024. Josh was born in San Jose, California but grew up in Arlington, Texas. He graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Master’s degree, both in Accounting in 2014. He is also a licensed Certified Public Accountant in Texas.
Prior to law school, Josh spent 3 years as an Auditor for a Big 4 accounting firm in Dallas, Texas. After his time in public accounting, he spent another 3 years as a Financial Reporting Analyst for a publicly traded midstream energy company headquartered in Dallas, Texas with operations in the Permian Basin, Oklahoma, North Texas, Ohio River Valley, and the Gulf Coast.
In addition to serving as the Business Manager for Volume 56 of the Texas Tech Law Review, Josh is a student attorney in the Criminal Defense Clinic, a Dean’s Ambassador, and serves as the Treasurer for the Black Law Students Association and the Criminal Law Association. Further, Josh’s student Article, “Objection! Hearsay: The Confrontation Clause, Supervised Release Revocation Hearings, and the Need for an Evidentiary Standard,” will be published in an upcoming edition of the peer-edited journal, the Criminal Law Bulletin.
Following his 1L year, Josh interned for the Federal Public Defender’s office in Lubbock, Texas and in Dallas, Texas. Following his 2L year, he interned for Mullin, Hoard & Brown. Josh’s areas of interest include criminal defense and corporate transactional law. In his spare time, Josh enjoys watching sports, traveling abroad, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.
