Michael McRoy is a third-year law student who will graduate in May 2026. Michael is from West Texas and calls Abilene home, but moved to Austin in 2019 to attend The University of Texas at Austin. Michael graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 2022 with a degree in History.
As an undergraduate, Michael interned in the Texas House of Representatives as a legislative aide for State Representative Brooks Landgraf, which re-kindled his passion for studying law, specifically oil and gas.
Michael has spent his summers with preeminent oil and gas law firms, Cotton Bledsoe and Hinkle Shanor, in Texas and East New Mexico. Michael has gained invaluable practical experience conducting thorough oil and gas title examinations, assisting with the drafting of drilling and acquisition opinions, facilitating a due diligence project, drafting JOAs, and structuring transactions for non-hydrocarbon resources like lithium and timber. This experience has furthered Michael’s commitment to practicing primarily in oil and gas title and transactions.
In addition to serving as a Texas Tech Law Review Articles Editor, Michael will spend his 3L year as the managing editor for the Journal of the Energy Law Practitioner.
In his free time, Michael enjoys hunting, playing golf, and watching UT football.
