Bailey McGowan is a 3L J.D. candidate graduating in May 2018. Bailey comes from an Air Force family and earned her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism with a minor in History from Texas Christian University. This year, Bailey is the Vice Chair of Negotiations for the Board of Barristers and is the Online Edition Editor for the Texas Tech Law Review. Bailey is also a student attorney for the Criminal Defense Clinic, working with indigent clients in Lubbock County. She will represent Texas Tech at the In Vino Veritas Mock Trial Competition and the National Energy & Sustainability Moot Court Competition.
As a 2L, Bailey competed in the Mockingbird Challenge Mock Trial Competition and the American Bar Association National Negotiations Competition. She and her partner were the Regional Champions in the negotiation competition and placed fifth at the finals in Chicago. She also serves as a tutor for Professor Casto’s Contracts class.
Prior to attending law school, Bailey was a journalist for the CBS-affiliate in San Antonio working in both the web department and delivering news on-air. Bailey’s legal interests include civil litigation, criminal law, and property law. She spent the first half of her 1L summer interning with a federal district judge in Georgia and the second half attending classes and working part-time at McPherson Wineries. The summer before her 3L year, Bailey worked with the Washington Legal Foundation and clerked with a criminal defense firm in Macon, GA.
